Learning leaped off the pages of our workbooks in British Science Week as we welcomed a very special visit from Animal Club . Lifting Young Voices Choir Concert
The pupils performed their songs at the Lifting Young Voices Choir Concert at All Saints Church, which was a packed event attended by many families. Year 3 and 4 have worked hard throughout the term to develop their singing skills in music lessons, and the concert provided a wonderful opportunity for them to showcase their talents and celebrate their achievements.

British Science Week for Year 3
Year 3 had a fantastic time during British Science Week. The theme was Curiosity. The class investigated the question: Does the way food looks change how it tastes? Art Winners!
St John’s were lucky enough to be represented by Laia Bowen Yr 1 and Isabel Chung Yr 6 in the Kingston Rotary Club competition. The theme this year was ‘I grow in or on the ground and people eat me.’ Laila won 2nd prize in the Yr 1 category and Isabel won 1st prize in the Yr 6 category. They both received their prize from the Mayor of Kingston. Well done to both girls for their wonderful arwork. We are very proud of you.

World Book Day Year 3
Year 3 had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day 2026. The class had a wonderful time in assembly, proudly parading their outfits. They created mini “tempting books” to recommend stories they had enjoyed and even visited Nursery and Reception to read to the younger children.

Surbiton Science Workshop
Year 5 attended an amazing science workshop on Wednesday 4th March at Surbiton High School. It was about Sustainability. We learned that balancing fire safety and environmental sustainability is important. Chinese New Year Reception have been learning about Chinese New Year. Casey made a Powerpoint with her family, and shared this with the class and in our whole school Worship. Egyptian Day
We’ve had a fantastic Egyptian Day in class today.The class made an amazing effort into their incredible costumes – from impressive pharaohs and dazzling Cleopatras to powerful Gods and even a pyramid. Viking Day
Year 5 had a successful Viking Day. The pupils engaged in a range of exciting Viking activities: writing their names in Anglo-Saxon runes; make and bake Viking bread, yeast bread and focaccia bread in order to make a comparision between them; engaging in a tug of war game and learning about the Battle of Hastings. It was fantastic to see most of the children coming into school as Viking warriors, farmers or normal children in those time.

Children’s Mental Health Week

Scoring Hoops
The school has been buzzing about our new basketball hoops, kindly funded by our PSA. The Year 4's invited the Year 5's to join them for a game. It was exciting and some very close games. In the summer, we will be moving the hoops outdoors to allow for more freeplay.

Four astronauts will fly around the Moon and back on Artemis II, the first crewed flight under NASA's Artemis campaign. Lynn Charlton (Chair of Governors) and her amateur performing group are back with their 2026 pantomime, 1001 Arabian Nights! Year 3 had an exciting trip to Kew Gardens, where we explored the rainforest and discovered how people live in different places around the world. Inside the tropical glasshouses, we learned about the amazing plants, animals, and environments found in rainforests, and why they are so important. Dreamcatcher
In our Design and Technology project, Newton class designed and made dreamcatchers. The project focused on skills like designing, cutting, joining, and evaluating a product. We used common materials that included paper plates, wool/string, and beads, which allow for a range of creative techniques. This is our Remembrance Day display with a wreath made by Nursery. We have Remembrance Day because we remember the people who fought for our peace in WW1 and WWII. Bronze Age workshop
The children enjoyed a fascinating Bronze Age workshop led by Millie’s family, who live on a farm near Hastings where a real Bronze Age settlement was discovered. They explored the Stone and Bronze Ages, handled examples of ancient tools, and learned how people lived closely with nature. Everyone had a go at making cordage from nettles and created their own clay pinch pots inspired by Bronze Age pottery. It was a fun, hands-on session that really brought history to life!
