MISSION STATEMENT

Mission Statement St John’s nurtures the educational, spiritual and moral development of all within its community, regardless of culture and belief. We foster in our pupils mutual respect and responsibility based on the core Christian values, and fulfil our school motto: “Believe Inspire Achieve”.

Our vision is for our whole school community, through the love of God, to respect and understand the Christian values and the beliefs of others. We ensure that our children are happy, successful learners who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve their full potential. Our Christian values will inspire our children to develop resilience and confidence. Our children will lead safe, healthy, caring and fulfilling lives, becoming responsible citizens who make positive contributions to society. We want everyone in our school to flourish and to know ‘life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10).

The values are below and are linked to our school Christian vision

We believe in:

  • Promoting all Christian values in our children and school community.

  • Providing our children, parents and staff with a caring, friendly, “family” atmosphere.

  • Ensuring the wellbeing of all our children and staff are met through thoughtful interactions.

  • Inspiring a love of learning amongst our pupils which is supported by their parents.

  • Educating our children in, and celebrating, diversity in the UK and global society.

  • Working in harmony with our families, local church, community and our local schools.

  • Leading by example on trust and honesty, by our children, staff and Governors.

Our Aims:

  • To provide a safe, caring, loving environment that promotes core Christian and British values in our children, preparing them for their next school and in later life. We aim to equip them with the self-esteem, confidence, respect, resilience and tolerance to be responsible and contributing members of a global society.

  • To retain and enhance our high calibre, dedicated team of staff – providing an environment that supports, nurtures and develops them, delivering outstanding leadership, teaching, safeguarding and care across the school as a result.

  • To ensure all pupils are healthy and happy within the school environment.

  • To inspire and achieve consistently outstanding attainment and progress by our children, challenging and supporting all pupils by having high expectations.

  • To be recognised as the first school of choice for families in the local community.

  • To respect individuality and value everyone equally.

  • To instil a curiosity for lifelong learning.

  • To ensure that all learning is fun!

Our Approach

Our approach at St John’s school is grounded in mutual support, listening to and respecting the views of others.

We will achieve our vision by:

  • Having high expectations of behaviour, achievement and attainment for both ourselves and others.

  • Celebrating the achievement of all irrespective of ability. Recognising that we all learn from both our successes and mistakes and fostering an ethos of exploration and experimentation. Children are encouraged to try new things – Sir Winston Churchill said ‘Success isn’t final, failure isn’t fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.”

  • Expecting forgiveness and reconciliation.

  • Making inclusivity a reality.

  • Ensuring all decisions are made by prioritising and keeping the best outcomes for our children in mind at all times.

  • Relentlessly striving to adopt best practice in teaching and learning

  • Having a school-wide focus on accelerating pupils’ progress and learning in all areas such that every child is enabled and encouraged to achieve their full potential.

  • Developing and improving staffs skills through high quality continuing professional development

  • Recognising our relationship with the church, the Parents Staff Association (PSA) and our local community and protecting and enhancing the role of the school within the local environment.

  • Developing strategic partnerships with other schools and educational establishments to drive school improvement and increase leadership capacity, staff development and budget efficiencies required to meet our vision.

  • Effectively, and with rigorous overview, managing and allocating our funding and resources to support our vision and aims.

  • Integrating our equality policies and behaviour in all we do, to promote tolerance, respect and an understanding of physical, cultural and spiritual diversity.

  • Maintaining the benefits of a “small school” environment as much as possible

  • Having a  focus on partnership and two-way communication with the families at the school, to fully engage them in their children’s education and school life and enlist their support of the school.
