Each year the National Gallery encourages children to focus on one painting from their collection and respond creatively to it. This year the painting was Pintoricchio’s, Penelope with the Suitors. At St John’s each class worked on a project through the week. The children used many skills including weaving, 3D modelling, water colour painting, photography, collage, digital imagery, embroidery, woodwork and clay sculpting.
Caitlyn (Year R): I looked through the window. I saw a pirate ship. We used black and white like the photo.
Minkeon (Year 2): We practised drawing the fish. Then we drew it on shiny card and cut it out. We then stuck it on our looms. I liked cutting out my fish.
Martha (Year 2): I liked when we stuck the jewels on and when we weaved on the loom.
