World Toilet Day 2026
This week our Year 5 RRS Ambassadors, Faith Group and School Council led our World Toilet Day assembly. This is an annual United Nations observance day to tackle the global sanitation crisis. Our Ambassadors raised awareness of the 3.5 billion people living without safe toilets and 2.2 billion people living without safe drinking water. Full Steam Ahead in Science Club!
Our Key Stage 1 scientists had a blast this week in Science Club exploring the cool world of sublimation and gas expansion. Bling Your Bike and Sparkle Your Scooter Parade!
To celebrate and encourage active travel, Nursery and Reception were invited to get creative, decorate their wheels, and ride their bikes and scooters into school for a spectacular grand parade. At the end of the school day, the children paraded their blinged-up bikes and sparkled scooters around the playground as parents cheered and celebrated their hard work. Language of the Month: Italian!
A huge well done to Grace in Year 6 for brilliantly leading our Language of the Month! Conerstone Church Visit - Easter Experience
Year 5 visited Conerstone church for the Easter experience. The class travelled back 2,000 years to Jesus’ time. They immersed themselves in the Easter story in real-time and met characters who were at crucial events from the last days before Jesus’ death, and those after his resurrection. Food Wastage Initiative
For our Global Neighbours project, we looked into our food wastage from school dinners. We used our record book of daily waste and added it together for Autumn term, and again for Spring term. Learning leaped off the pages of our workbooks in British Science Week as we welcomed a very special visit from Animal Club . Children had the chance to get up close and ignite their curiosity with some truly fascinating creatures. Lifting Young Voices Choir Concert
The pupils performed their songs at the Lifting Young Voices Choir Concert at All Saints Church, which was a packed event attended by many families. British Science Week for Year 3
Year 3 had a fantastic time during British Science Week. The theme was Curiosity. The class investigated the question: Does the way food looks change how it tastes? Art Winners!
St John’s were lucky enough to be represented by Laia Bowen Yr 1 and Isabel Chung Yr 6 in the Kingston Rotary Club competition. The theme this year was ‘I grow in or on the ground and people eat me.’ Laila won 2nd prize in the Yr 1 category and Isabel won 1st prize in the Yr 6 category. They both received their prize from the Mayor of Kingston. Well done to both girls for their wonderful arwork. We are very proud of you.

World Book Day Year 3
Year 3 had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day 2026. The class had a wonderful time in assembly, proudly parading their outfits. They created mini “tempting books” to recommend stories they had enjoyed and even visited Nursery and Reception to read to the younger children.

Active Travel
Our JRSOs from Year 6, Kashfiya, Berfu, Chelsie and Neha, launched a whole school assembly on Active Travel talking specifically about its benefits. Active travel is good for our health as it strengthens our muscles and bones and gets us fitter. It's good for our wellbeing as walking together to school is a good opportunity for quality time with friends and fsmily. Surbiton Science Workshop
Year 5 attended an amazing science workshop on Wednesday 4th March at Surbiton High School. It was about Sustainability. We learned that balancing fire safety and environmental sustainability is important. Stepping back in time, we learned about the first energy generator discovered by the famous scientist - Michael Faraday (aka ‘Father of Electricity’) - and reflecting on innovative ways of generating electricity today through the use of Wind Turbines and Hydroelectricity.
