A group of Year 3's and Year 4's represented our school at a Cross-country event. The event involved a path through the woods, up a hill and even down a muddy path. We are very proud of these determined runners!

Year 5 attended an amazing science workshop on Wednesday 4th March at Surbiton High School. It was about Sustainability. We learned that balancing fire safety and environmental sustainability is important. Stepping back in time, we learned about the first energy generator discovered by the famous scientist - Michael Faraday (aka ‘Father of Electricity’) - and reflecting on innovative ways of generating electricity today through the use of Wind Turbines and Hydroelectricity. We were pleased to have the opportunity to attend an exciting and educational visit on Thursday 26th February 2026 at Kingston Train Station. The exhibition brought the railway’s 200-year story of innovation to life. Created by Railway 200, it was a unique, interactive and free touring train exhibition called Inspiration that was visiting locations across Britain. Chinese New Year Reception have been learning about Chinese New Year. Casey made a Powerpoint with her family, and shared this with the class and in our whole school Worship. She did this clearly and confidently. We were all very impressed and have learned a lot about the festival. Casey also taught us some words in Chinese, which we enjoyed learning how to say.

The first half of the spring term has been full of adventure, imagination, and wonderfully muddy learning. With all the recent rain, the children absolutely embraced the forest, delighting in the squelchy mud and wet weather as they explored, played, and discovered the world around them. Year 5 did a fantastic sketch this week for the Kingston Rotary Club Art Competition. The subject was things that grow in the ground which people eat. Some did colourful pictures, while others did lovely black and white drawings.

We’ve had a fantastic Egyptian Day in class today.The class made an amazing effort into their incredible costumes – from impressive pharaohs and dazzling Cleopatras to powerful Gods and even a pyramid. The children truly looked the part! The day was organised as a carousel of hands-on activities. Year 5 had a successful Viking Day. The pupils engaged in a range of exciting Viking activities: writing their names in Anglo-Saxon runes; make and bake Viking bread, yeast bread and focaccia bread in order to make a comparision between them; engaging in a tug of war game and learning about the Battle of Hastings. It was fantastic to see most of the children coming into school as Viking warriors, farmers or normal children in those time.

Year 4 Share Wellbeing Wisdom for Children's Mental Health Week As part of our celebrations for Children’s Mental Health Week, we were delighted to hear from Fabiana and Felix in Year 4. As part of Children’s Mental Health Week, we were delighted to welcome Katie to lead a series of wellbeing workshops throughout the school. The sessions focused on the powerful connection between body and brain, teaching the children how to "make their minds happy through movement." The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience, leaving the workshops feeling energized, positive, and happy.

The school has been buzzing about our new basketball hoops, kindly funded by our PSA. The Year 4's invited the Year 5's to join them for a game. It was exciting and some very close games. In the summer, we will be moving the hoops outdoors to allow for more freeplay.

Four astronauts will fly around the Moon and back on Artemis II, the first crewed flight under NASA's Artemis campaign. Artemis II will test NASA's deep space capabilities, as humans fly on the SLS rocket and Orion spacecraft for the first time. The approximately 10-day mission will launch from Launch Complex 39 at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida no later than April 2026. A group of Year 4's enjoyed their day at Southborough High School for their annual wellbeing festival. They were able to enjoy activities like figurine painting, playing with fidgets, doing fitness challenges, having their nails painted and much more.

Lynn Charlton (Chair of Governors) and her amateur performing group are back with their 2026 pantomime, 1001 Arabian Nights! This popular production is always a brilliant family favourite, packed with laughs, energy, and a few surprise guest appearances along the way. Performances will take place on three dates in February at St John’s Parish Hall . Please see the attachment for February dates.

Year 2 had the wonderful opportunity to visit Cornerstone Church for their immersive Christmas Journey workshop. This interactive experience brought the Nativity story to life, moving beyond the classroom and into the heart of the festive season. Beyond the fun of a school trip, the workshop provided a vital "hands-on" approach to our RE unit on incarnation and celebration. It encouraged the children to ask thoughtful questions about faith while building their understanding o

Year 3 had an exciting trip to Kew Gardens, where we explored the rainforest and discovered how people live in different places around the world. Inside the tropical glasshouses, we learned about the amazing plants, animals, and environments found in rainforests, and why they are so important. We also found out how people adapt to life in these unique regions. It was a fun, hands-on day of learning and adventure!

In our Design and Technology project, Newton class designed and made dreamcatchers. The project focused on skills like designing, cutting, joining, and evaluating a product. We used common materials that included paper plates, wool/string, and beads, which allow for a range of creative techniques. All the dreamcatchers turned out fantastic and the pupils had fun making them!
