St John’s News 7: Friday 16th December 2022

‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do

not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.’ John 14:27

A message from the Head

What a busy term this has been for our school community! It has been brilliant having the children mingle together on the playground, looking after the younger pupils whilst outside and engaging them in creative games. We enjoyed having parents in school for Parents’ Evening and our new class-led Collective worships.

We, like many schools across the country enjoy sharing our Christmas festivities with you. This year each class performed a segment of the Nativity to bring this beautiful Bible story of the birth of Jesus alive. We put on 2 services this year, so all our St John’s community had the opportunity to enjoy, and prepare for this important season. Mrs. Thornton, a grandparent of one of our families, supported us with the musical aspects by playing the piano and helping us with the children’s singing. A huge thank you to Mrs. Thornton for all her help!

Whole School Christmas Service at St John's Church

Mr. Peat shared his musical talent in a whole school Music worship. He stunned us all with his amazing performance on the saxophone. Thank you again for inspiring us all!

Some of the classes have been on cultural visits, Newton Y5 visited the Science Museum and Turing Y6 visited the National Army Museum.

It has been encouraging to see the children working hard across all areas of the curriculum, and living out our school values. We are proud of all of our children!

To support some of our families, we hosted a Wellbeing Coffee morning in Bluebridge House with our Mental Health Practitioner.

Are you planning on buying your child a new device for Christmas?

Peter Cowley (AfC's Online Safety Adviser), delivered an online safety presentation to KS2 children and parents. This was incredibly useful and further information is available on the school website. As a matter of keeping all our children safe online please see the information on how to set up security measures on devices.

We have enjoyed many festive activities over the past few weeks:

  • The children’s Christmas lunch and class parties

  • Magician for YN to Y3

  • KS2 went to see A Christmas Carol at The Rose Theatre

  • Y2’s visit to Cornerstone Church for the Christmas Journey experience

  • Dance exhibition in the hall

  • Surprise Father Christmas and Frosty the Snowman Visit for the Nursery Children

Thank you for your kind donations in our Reverse Advent Calendar for the Kingston Food Bank.

The children enjoyed a fun Christmas activity morning organised by the PSA. Thank you to the new PSA team, as they have been busy this half of the term planning exciting events to help the school raise funds. Please do support them!
