Newton Class embarked on a fantastic educational Tudor trip to Hampton Court Palace. We started off with a workshop investigating Henry’s powerful personality and his struggle to break away from the Catholic Church to form the Church of England. The workshop has encouraged the children to reflect on how Henry’s actions shaped history at a personal vs religious principle level, using primary and secondary sources. We also explored the grand kitchen, Henry’s apartments and the Great Hall. The highlight of the day was the hedge maze, where the children got lost and released their energy!
What a brilliant trip! The Tudor workshop sounds like it really brought Henry VIII's court to life for the children — and I love that the hedge maze was the highlight of the day. My daughter's class did something similar before their history day: their teacher assigned everyone a Tudor character to role-play, which went down a treat. Sounds like Newton Class had a wonderful day — for anyone planning a history day of their own, I'd recommend a random name picker.
