St John's Partnerships
Our vibrant partnerships with Kingston Grammar School, Surbiton High School and Hollyfield have created opportunities where children of all ages grow together in character, confidence, and faith.
“Serve one another humbly in love.” — Galatians 5:13
Kingston Grammar School
Our long-standing partnership with Kingston Grammar School (KGS) touches almost every aspect of school life, enriching the education of pupils across both schools through the dedication of KGS staff and Sixth Form volunteers.
Lunchtime Chess Club
On Wednesdays, excitement fills the room! Beginners learn the basics of chess from KGS mentors, while experienced players hone new strategies and enjoy friendly competition. Our children love Chess Club and are so excited to have the opportunity to learn to play the game with the help of the Sixth Formers, while the more advanced players enjoy the challenge of playing against KGS students and learning new moves.
Homework Club
Dedicated Sixth Formers with the support of St John’s staff offer regular encouragement, helping pupils tackle homework with enthusiasm and pride.
Playground Buddies
KGS Sixth Formers bring energy to our playtimes, guiding younger pupils in giant Lego builds—teaching patience, turn-taking, and sharing. Others introduce new sports like handball and basketball, noticeably boosting active participation and teamwork across the school. KGS Lunchtime Buddies have been amazing!
Reading Buddies
Weekly visits from KGS Sixth Formers provide patient guidance and encouragement. Our children look forward to reading aloud, exploring new books alongside inspiring older role models.
Specialist PE & Language Days
Specialist KGS PE coaches deliver high-energy lessons to Year 6, instilling a love for physical wellbeing, while every June, KGS students lead an immersive Language Morning filled with global songs, stories, and games.
Specialist Events
our pupils regularly visit KGS to expand their horizons.
Primary Maths Challenge Club
Guided by KGS teachers and Sixth Formers, our pupils develop creative problem-solving skills.
Mr Redhead commented: “I like how the Primary Maths Challenge questions are put together. It gives the children something that is different to the normal primary curriculum.”
Surbiton High School
Our partnership with Surbiton High School highlights the power of pupil voice and collaborative service in making a lasting difference.
A peaceful sanctuary
Wanting a peaceful sanctuary away from the bustling playground, our school Faith Group took the initiative to design a reflective outdoor area. They presented their drawings and ideas to Surbiton High School, whose Community Action Project brought the vision to life.
The Surbiton team worked tirelessly—weeding, clearing, and completely transforming an unused area into a tranquil space for our children to sit, pray, and reflect together.
Inspiring Science
Beyond community projects, Surbiton High School continues to support our curriculum, recently delivering an engaging, hands-on science lesson on acids and alkalis for our Year 5 pupils.
Hollyfield School
Our strong ties with The Hollyfield School reinforce our local community network through active support and collaborative learning
Sports Day Support
Hollyfield students and staff generously assist during our annual Sports Day, helping run events and cheering on our young athletes.
Cross-School Workshops
Our pupils regularly visit Hollyfield to participate in exciting science and music sessions, benefiting from high-school facilities and interactive learning.
These strong partnerships between Kingston Grammar, Surbiton High, Hollyfield and St John’s have been highly successful and can be measured in the small, daily victories: a child happily completing their homework, children enjoying new ball games, friends sitting quietly together in a pupil – designed reflective garden or a new player discovering a love for chess. These partnerships enrich the lives of pupils from all schools creating a strong community built on mutual respect, service, and shared joy.
