Welcome from the Headteacher

Welcome to our small school with a big heart! We are a Church of England school, and part of the Southwark Diocese Board of Education. At St John’s we are led by the love of Jesus which shines through all we do, allowing our children to live life in all its fullness (John 10:10). We aspire to be the first choice of your child's learning journey within the local community.

We are passionate about our children’s development, learning and emotional wellbeing. We set high expectations of our children and, through quality first teaching and support, we help them to be happy, resilient, and confident to equip them to achieve their full potential.

I am proud that we are inclusive, and the uniqueness of every child is recognised and celebrated. Through our creative curriculum, we prepare our children for the daily challenges of life, encouraging our children to become courageous advocates of the future, and responsible citizens of the world. Nurtured by the love of Christ, and their understanding of Christian values, we believe that through hard work and inspirational teaching, pupils will achieve their goals, and become positive contributors to society.

Through our partnerships with St John’s Church, local community and dedicated staff, our children confidently go on to flourish. I believe our children are the 'Salt of the earth,' (Matthew 5:13).

Best wishes,

Mrs L Esua

About St John's

Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make. We believe every child deserves to feel safe, valued, challenged and inspired every single day, and at St John's, that is exactly what we strive to provide.

We are proud to be a welcoming, inclusive school at the heart of our local community, where children are known as individuals and encouraged to flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. As a Church of England school within the Southwark Diocese, our Christian values underpin everything we do, shaping a culture of kindness, respect, courage and compassion that welcomes families of all faiths and none.

Every child matters

At St John's, we know that no two children are the same. Every child arrives with their own personality, talents, interests and aspirations, and we celebrate the uniqueness of each one. Our dedicated staff take the time to build strong relationships with every child, creating an environment where children feel confident to ask questions, take risks in their learning and discover who they can become.

We believe children achieve their very best when they feel happy, secure and understood.

Learning for life

Our curriculum is ambitious, engaging and carefully designed to develop curious, confident learners who are prepared for the future. Alongside high-quality teaching in reading, writing, mathematics and the wider curriculum, children enjoy rich experiences that inspire creativity, critical thinking and a lifelong love of learning.

From Forest School and outdoor learning to music, sport, educational visits and creative projects, learning extends far beyond the classroom and helps children develop resilience, independence and confidence.

A nurturing community

One of the things families often tell us is how welcoming St John's feels. We are proud of the relationships between staff, children and families. By working together, we create a community where everyone feels respected, listened to and supported. Children quickly learn that kindness matters, differences are celebrated and everyone has an important part to play within our school family.

A wonderful place to begin

Our Nursery provides a caring and stimulating environment where young children develop confidence through play, exploration and meaningful relationships.

For many children, Nursery is the beginning of an exciting journey that continues right through to Year 6, allowing them to grow within a familiar, nurturing environment where they are known and supported every step of the way.

Preparing children for the future

Academic achievement is important, but we believe education is about so much more. We want every child to leave St John's as a confident reader, an inquisitive learner, a thoughtful friend, a resilient problem-solver and a responsible citizen who is ready for the opportunities and challenges of secondary school and beyond.

We encourage children to develop independence, curiosity and a genuine love of learning that will remain with them throughout their lives.

We would love to welcome you

The very best way to experience St John's is to come and see us for yourself. Walk through our classrooms, meet our staff, hear from our children and experience the warmth of our community first-hand.

We are incredibly proud of our school and would be delighted to show you why so many families choose St John's as the place where their children's learning journey begins.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.
