We are a Healthy School

Updated: Nov 20, 2023

One of our major aims at St John's is to support our pupils in the development of healthy life styles. We encourage the children to:

  • Walk or ride bicycles or scooters to school

  • Eat a balanced diet including lots of fresh fruit and vegetables (Healthy Lunchbox leaflet-click here)

  • Drink water often

  • Sleep well!

We have National Healthy School Status

  • We are part of the government fruit and vegetable scheme and offer free fruit at playtime. Children have access to water throughout the day. Our hot school dinners are healthy. We have an active school council who meet regularly. We have a wide range of after school clubs including rounders, mixed sports, football, netball, drama and lots of other active and fun clubs.

  • Our school curriculum includes SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning). We have Peer Mediators who help children to resolve their own problems. Playground Buddies support children at playtime.

  • We encourage walking/cycling/scootering to school and we have assemblies to promote healthy living. We also have lots of activities linked with Healthy Schools throughout the year. To encourage this we have a well developed school travel plan and this year, we have achieved the TFL Gold Travel Plan Award. Look at Class R practising their road safety skills. Bike racks and scooter sheds are provided in school for storage during the day.The school is also an active participant in green schools projects. We actively encourage recycling, reusing and limiting use of energy and resources.
