House System, Class Names & Our School Motto

When your child joins St John's, they become a member of one of four bird house groups. These are especially motivating for gaining housepoints and events such as Sports Day, when the winning house gets to run with the trophy - the sea of colour is a beautiful sight! Our house groups are: Heron, Wagtail, Goldcrest and Kingfisher.

Classes are named after scientists and you can find out more about each one on our Classes page. We have recently gained the PSQM Science award and pupils enjoy investigating Science in an exciting way.

Our school motto is a short, meaningful three word phrase that young children delight in saying: Believe, Inspire and Achieve.  We help and encourage our pupils to build inner confidence, inspire each other in their learning and ultimately achieve - being the best that they can be, whilst they're with us at St John's and in the future.

Maths Passports

Mental arithmetic is exciting! Children enjoy the Maths passport scheme, in which they 'travel' to each planet once they've mastered short numeric tasks.  For example, number bonds to 10 or 20, 100 or more. They are praised in our merit assemblies and are proud, numerate space explorers!

Mathletics/Reading Eggs/Library

St John's pupils receive a personalised login for our subscription based educational resources. We encourage these to be used at home too if possible. The online fun activities cater for all differentiated levels and children like the digital aspect of learning. Mathletics has a unique live competitve activity as well as specific maths area for pinpointing learning.  Reading Eggs offers a choice of books, grammar, spelling and comprehension activities - all geared to make it fun.
